Living Sea Museum of Pioppi (MuSea)

The Living Sea Museum of Pioppi, also known as MuSea, is an important educational and scientific center located in the heart of Cilento, inside the charming Palazzo Vinciprova. Founded in 1996, the museum is managed by Legambiente and is one of the main educational hubs in Campania.

What to See

The museum is spread over two floors and offers various experiences:

  • Ground floor: houses the Living Sea Museum with 13 tanks reproducing the marine ecosystems typical of the Cilento coast, including:
    • Proteus tactile tank: a rocky environment with algae, mollusks, sea urchins, and small fish, some species can be touched.
    • Moraine tank: habitat for moray eels and other typical fish.
    • Posidonia oceanica tank: dedicated to the endemic Mediterranean seagrass.
    • Octopus tank: houses octopus specimens known for their camouflage abilities.
    • Deep tanks: recreate deeper sea floors with groupers, scorpionfish, and crabs.
  • First floor: Living Museum of the Mediterranean Diet, dedicated to the studies of epidemiologist Ancel Keys, who lived in Pioppi for over 40 years.

  • October – May: every day except Tuesday, 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
